INUMA Hero : Thierry Nizeyimana

Thierry Nizeyimana, the Kiosk attendant for Kavumu

A native of Mageragere sector, Kavumu cell, Thierry Nizeyimana was shocked and sad for the untimely death of a mother in his community in 2017 when a crocodile in Nyabarongo river claimed her life as she went to fetch water.

"When I saw Water Access Rwanda coming and providing water in my community, I was so happy and immediately wanted to be part of the change makers" says the 23-year old who now tends to the Kavumu INUMA nexus. He also wanted to "make sure that I participate in the community mobilization so that they come to fetch clean water instead of going to Nyabarongo river."

He competed with 10 other young people for the position, and passed the exam he describes as hard.

" Now I see the fruit of my efforts not only in my personal life but also in my community. Since we opened in October 2017 there are no more stories about crocodiles eating people and hopefully we will not hear them again."
